Scholarship update: the competition is tough.

I know I know....a bunch of you have been checking our blog every other minute...to see if the winners have been announced. Sorry charlie. This post still won't announce it. However, we're posting the winners today, the 27th, as promised. So stay tuned

Just to let you all know, it's almost 3:00am right now...and Brad and I were just texting each other back and forth encouraging each other to keep pushing....keep working......keep evaluating the remaining profiles......thinking it through and pondering it out to make sure the best decisions are made. I can probably guess Sid is doing it right now too on the other side of town. We are taking this very seriously.

For awhile it involved the entire Zinch team, sifting through student profiles and keeping students moving forward. But now it's coming down to the buzzer. We're down to the remaining percentages....and Brad, Sid and I have the nearly-impossible task of choosing the winners. We've been spending hours upon hours, late nights upon late nights, red bulls upon red bulls, reading through all your profiles making sure we do this right. I'm telling ya....this is extremely tough! There are so many qualified and deserving students. So many have such incredible talents, skills and stories. The competition is fierce. Very fierce.

So.....I guess my point is that I hope no one feels bad if they don't win. At the point we are at now....so many people could win. It's kinda like college admissions. There are so many qualified students who can fill one spot. Unfortunately, sometimes there's only one spot.

You guys rock. So does Zinch. Pass it on. :) Later today we'll post the winners. Peace.

Kat France:

Hey there just wanted to say good luck in your decision and I really appreciate the time and care you're taking, by the sounds of it it's going to be tough! Can't wait to hear about the winner - best of luck to all finalists, I know whoever gets it will be most deserving. Because of the time difference for me you're probably going to announce it during the middle of the night for me....so i'll wait up until i hear!

I just wanted to say thank you for taking the scholarship decision so seriously. I know you must have been thinking "What have I gotten myself into? How am I supposed to choose?" It might be tough to sit here and wait for a decision, but I bet it's even tougher making it.

heh, I didn't know they even sold Red Bull on BYU's campus...mak'n some late night (or morning) stops i see, but anyways, good luck on everything, I hope all goes well!

Bradford Nguyen:

You guys are truly amazing. I had a dream about this and there was a mistake and the names kept changing hahaha. Take ur time--if you need another day- people will wait :p

Kortney:

Good luck to you guys that are deciding. I hope that no matter what, everyone that was a finalist, or even if you weren't, that you can be proud that this is such a good program and that the person who does get the scholarship really deserves it.

It's a great thing you guys have going here with this website and all you are trying to do to help students.

Erin Hobelman:

Hi
Don't worry take your time it is really appericatited that you are taking this so seriously. I just can't wait to find our so good luck to everyone and thanks again for your consideration.
hearts
~Erin~

Cheyenne McDade:

Everyone wants to know who won. But, good luck to everyone and good job to the finalists. I can't wait to see who actually wins; I'll be waiting to find out

Ankita:

Yes...good luck with making the decisions. There are a lot of qualified people out there! Good luck to all the finalists.

Salma:

Ditto Kat. It really means a lot to us kids when we know that this scholarship is like no other: everyone's a victor. At the end of the day, we all have learned something, and that's really what it takes to be a true winner. By acknowledging that we all have our own personal strengths and that we're one of a kind, I admit that it kinda does detract the sore loser-ness (if you will) from the whole race to the finish. Thanks for realizing our hopes and dreams, and busting your backsides to make them a reality. You seriously rock, hardcore. Kudos to you, not us!

Good luck to all the scholarship finalists, and if you don't win: don't stress! There are other scholarships to look for - the point is to keep working hard, and hope for the best (but expect the worst). Hope my realism ain't too pessimistic.

:D

Mick, I think we have all won in a sense by simply being a part of the Zinch community. Thanks for all the sleepless nights and countless mornings running on red bull. :) I'm sure all the hard work will pay off in the end.

And, congratulations to all the winners in advance!

Michael Serrano:

haha, honestly, I've been checking pretty frequently.
I'm excited and worried at the same time. Excited by the rare opportunity, and worried by the odds against us.

I find this is a very important statement
"I hope no one feels bad if they don't win."

...and to that, I also hope that if we don't, we will all be humble enough to accept it, and respect those who did, because that's true good character is all about.

signed,
me

I can't even imagine what a tough job it is to pick just one deserving recipient for your scholarship! Thank you for your dedication, extra hours, and hard work :-)

Once you have had time to recover and catch up on sleep, it would be fun to know some of the facts including how many applicants there were, how many finalists, what percentage need to pay their own way through college ... and most fun fact, once a winner is selected, what made that applicant stand out above and beyond?

I slept with my fingers crossed!!!

Brett Forsberg:

Good luck with the decision making. Whatever happens, this site is still awesome.

Hi! This is so exciting! lol. I know it has to be hard to pick out of all these awesome people :) Good luck to everyone, and thanks to everyone at Zinch.com.

Tyler:

It sounds like you have a tough decision. I appreciate you keeping everyone up to date on how the process is going. I'll keep checking back!

Tyler

scott kibler:

I would like to agree completely with Kat. It means so much to all of us that you are taking so much consideration in the process of choosing the winners. Most scholarship organizations out there just skim through the finalists and only give something out as a tax write-off to get more money back in their pockets. With this website I know that everything will be handled according to how deserving we are. Thank you for not letting us be another test score or write-off. Thank you for actually treating us like deserving students. :)

Yajaira De La Espada:

Hey, I just want to say thank you for taking the time out to consider me and others. If I were to say I'm not nervous, I would be lying. I don't know how many finalists there are but I know that "I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me" I thank you guys so much for this opportunity that you have given us. I am so grateful.

Tim Cooke:

Good luck to all of the finalists as well! I hope that each student goes away with something - either a scholarship or experience. No matter who wins or looses, thank you for at least giving us the opportunity.

Holley Texas:

Hey just wondering about what time you will post the winners? Can't wait to hear who won. Best of luck deciding!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Becca Kany:

Good luck on the decision! That red bull stuff...keeps me writing a paper many a long night. Hah.

Heather Hamilton:

Good luck to all my fellow finalists! I'm sure you're as excited and nervous about the anouncement as I am!

Thank you so much for taking the time to look through all of our profiles and essays, we're all honored. Good luck in your decision; you've got a tough job ahead of you!

Pat Lane:

Good luck everyone. I've been checking this non stop for the last few hours. Can't wait. Good Luck Again!

Matthew Yagyagan:

Like everyone before me has said, thanks for taking the time to get things right and pick the scholarship winners. Also good luck to all my fellow finalists. I can't wait to see who wins!

This site is so unique. Ive had so many convos about how scholarships dont look enough at all the extra things people do that contribute to their personalities overall. Whoever made this site is pretty smart and amazing :):). Thanks:)

hey I see we all have been awaiting anxiously, according to the times your message was posted good luck to everyone and hope the best of luck in all of ya'll futures career paths in which ever college you guys go to

The wait time is agonizing, but I'm sure it's nowhere near as hard as making the decision! We want you to make the best decision possible, and I am definitely glad you're taking the time to think it through.

I wouldn't want to get passed over because people rushed you through it, and with a 35k tuition, I can't afford to be too picky!

Take your time guys, and thanks!

Scottie:

I'm pretty sure the decision zinch.com makes for the scholarship is the right one. No hard feelings.

Brandis Gonzales:

Hey!

Thanks a bunch for taking this so seriously! It must be hard choosing the right one!

I've just got to say, congrats to whoever wins! :D

im going insane. i keep checking the site and still no decission, which is fine i totally understand that this is an extremely hard decission. i am just running out of things to do here. which should be hard since there is a 5 yr old in the house and our grandmother is sick. there is only so much to do. im nervous and excited and being pessimistic. cant help it. oh well. not much to do but wait patiently and i totally understand if more time is required. hell its summer, ive got nothing but time.

Finally, we're starting to be recognized as something more than a test score by universities, thanks to this increidibly helpful web site. It's great to see someone taking the time and effort making changes in how the student is viewed.

I am proud to be a finalist here!

Jessica:

Guilty as charged. ;)

I really appreciate all of the effort y'all are putting into picking the winner and all of the effort y'all have put into Zinch in general. It's been a blessing for me, as I'm sure it has been for others.

I'm not going to say I don't want to win because I really really do, but I could make do with being a finalist, because that is an honor in itself. I'm sure no matter who becomes the winner they will be someone who very deserving.

Good luck picking someone and get some sleep soon! :O

Thank you, guys, for putting so much thought into awarding the scholarships. Best wishes to all!

Hey everybody, I just want to congratulate all of the finalists, I'm sure everyone is as nervous as I am. I know that this must be a really tough decision, but whoever wins I know that they must really deserve it. If I don't win I wont be bitter, I can only be thankful for being apart of this wonderful experience, thanks so much to you guys at zinch! this site really gives us students a wonderful opportunity for colleges to see who we really are! I just wanted to say I find this truly neat how this Zinch community has grown. I wish I would've discovered this site earlier in my high school days. Congrats to all those who applied, have found Zinch, and are finalists for the scholarship. And checking back every minute is an understatement. :) Good luck to everyone!

Go Zinch!

Rachael Kane:

Hey everyone. I won't sound like a broken record and gush about how thankful I am, because of course I am and what you guys are doing is great.

I actually have a question. Is there just one winner or are there several?

Peace!

MacKenzie P.:

ZINCH! What a great opportunity! Thanks for giving a girl like me a chance on a fabulous scholarship! Keep working! THANKS AGAIN!
You guys are AMAZING!

Greg Brusola:

Haha... We all appreciate your hard work. The anticipation is getting to us finalists! Good luck, and thanks

Anita George:

Don't worry you guys. Take as much time as you need...We know you 'll make the right decision, whomever you choose. I just want to thank y'all for not only developing and taking such a scholarship so seriously but for also creating an invaluable method for students to effectively showcase their talents by giving their work positive exposure they might not otherwise have. I especially appreciate the "zfolio" feature of the site for that reason.
The advice you've given, the site you've created, the movement you've started...it's a wonderful thing, keep it up!
Rock on, you guys!
Good luck to all the finalists!

Becky:

I can imagine that this is an extremely grueling process and I hope you make the right decision. I also want to thank you and the other zinch.com faculty for giving students like us this opportunity. Best of luck to all those who applied!!

-Gerard Pierre

I wonder how many finalists there are...like 100's or less than that?

Kortney:

wow i didnt realize how much i wanted to know the winner of this until the day came. Ive been checking back every hour or so to see if anything new is posted. You guys are 3 hours behind me. I was just wondering if you could tell us how close you are to deciding or give us an hour when you think the results will be up?..

I should probably stop checking the site, BUT I can't seem to help myself.

Anyone know how many finalists there actually are?

Good Luck Everyone! I'm a finalist, but even if I don't get it I won't be disappointed too much because I know Zinch is trying its best. Congrats in advance to the winners!!!

Lauren:

It is really getting down to the wire...Good luck to everyone! I know there are some pretty amazing people out there!

Shakima:

how do you know if you qualified? I am so lost..lol

Joy:

yeah, umm why don't we stop with the endless comments that say the same thing and waste the judges' time when it could be used productively and they can get the results out sooner?

Rachel:

Hey, just wanted to echo what the others have said! Take your time and when the decisions are the right ones, you will know and then let us all know as well!

I am a finalist as well and wish everyone the best of luck with the results and with our amazing journeys into the future. Zinch is a great site and has given us more than scholarship opportunities (but those don't hurt)!

As for feeling bad if I don't win, well sure, rejection is never pleasant, but just being recognized at all, makes me a sure winner! Thanks!!

Angela:

I'm just glad that I was chosen as a finalist, and I want to congratulate whoever wins.

By the way, thanks for taking your time on making the decision because it really means a lot.

GOOD LUCK to all the finalists!!!

Stephanie:

Ahhh!! I can't wait! It's now just about Seven! Mostly at this point I would like to know who the lucky winners are! Indeed, good luck to a great bunch of people :)

Brad:

yeah, i agree with joy

How many winners will be selected?

Tim Cooke:

While we wait we can all enjoy a joke!

Some race horses staying in a stable. One of them starts to boast about his track record. "In the last 15 races, I've won 8 of them!"

Another horse breaks in, "Well in the last 27 races, I've won 19!!"

"Oh that's good, but in the last 36 races, I've won 28!", says another, flicking his tail.

At this point, they notice that a greyhound dog has been sitting there listening. "I don't mean to boast," says the greyhound, "but in my last 90 races, I've won 88 of them!"

The horses are clearly amazed. "Wow!" says one, after a hushed silence. "A talking dog."

Meghan Kane:

Good luck, everyone!! I suppose the evaluating never ends; from college decisions to scholarships to ahh!! To all finalists- keep busy!!! And to all zinch employees- thank you!

Robert G.:

Haha!! ^^ Good One. Good Luck to all of those at Zinch.

Think of it, once you decide the winners you can sleep. =D

I'm a finalist and I must say that the wait is killing me. However I know that the decision is tough on the Zinch.com staff and I know that they will make the right choice.

ZInch has afforded us(scholars) to really represent ourselves as more that test scores and for that I know that we are all extremely grateful. I know that I will be using my zinch.com page to supplement ALL of my college and scholarship applications.

GOOD LUCK GUYS!!!!!

Paulette Barros:

lol! hey that's a funny joke! It reminds me of the talking muffin one.
Good luck to everyone, its gets really nervous waiting for the decisions, huh? I hope the best for everyone out there!

to joy & brad, the reason we are saying it over and over and over again is because people are thankful for the job the zinch team is doing. no matter how hard people are working, they still like to hear some gratitude while they're doing it! and tim, i thought the joke was funny. good luck guyss =D

carli:

Hey, thanks for all of the time you guys are putting into this. It is nice to know that an array of people are being considered and it is great to see that so many people are possible candidates. Congratulations to whoever wins!

Andrea Parra:

Hey guys, I just want to thank you for all of your hard work. This process is very stressful and I just thanks for all the time you have put in, and for the fact that I got to be a finalist. Thank you for everything, and I hope it will all turn out great. I CANT WAIT TO KNOW WHO WON!!!

Anika:

WOW you guys really do go through alot to make the right choice. Just think that the future of how great a financial burden one of us college students might bear will be decided some time today! Thats a lot. Well good luck...and thank you all for everything.
Anika T.

shakima:

I am soooo anxious!!!!

Julio Tenorio:

Thankyou for taking your time. I appreciate the hard work and dedication that you put into reviewing the applications. Good luck to everyone!!!!

Ashley Bernard:

Hey guys! I just wanted (much like the 87 posts above me) to say thank you for this amazing opportunity and for taking the selection so seriously. It really means a lot to be treated as an actual HUMAN BEING rather than an application number or test score. Anyway, good luck with the selection! I'll continue checking every 5 minutes =P

Bonnie:

Yesterday, I just got back from a two-week trip in Nicaragua. So checking my e-mail and realizing I was a finalist was a very pleasant surprise. Congrats to all the finalists who've made it this far, and good luck!

Bonnie, Harvard '11

Jamie Benjaminson:

Like everyone before me....Thank you so much for giving me the oppurtunity to apply for this scholarship. I'm sure that it is a very tough decision and there for it should that this whole day to come to a conclusion. Thank you so much!! And thanks for the opportunity. I can't wait to hear who the winner(s) is/are!!!

Jen:

What really amazes me is how positive everyone is about this. Usually the competition for this kind of thing is pretty brutal, which is probably why scholarships don't usually come with forums. But we're all merrily wishing each other luck. Kind of cool.

Oh, and like everyone else has already said, take your time and good luck to everyone.

I know it must be very difficult to make the decision, but I really want you guys to know how much it means to me and I'm sure everybody else who has entered. Thank you so much for going through our profiles and checking everything out so carefully and painstakingly.
You guys rock my socks!
