Still stuck on your college admission essay?

First impressions can go a long way especially if you want to get into the college of your dreams. That's why having an eye-catching first sentence in your application essay will surely increase your chances of being accepted.

Stanford recently debuted some of their favorite opening lines from the class of 2012. I hope they inspire you all as you begin/continue/end your college app essays. Here are some of my favorites:

"On a hot Hollywood evening, I sat on a bike, sweltering in a winter coat and furry boots."

"I have old hands."

"The spaghetti burbled and slushed around the pan, and as I stirred it, the noises it gave off began to sound increasingly like bodily functions."

"Sitting cross-legged on the floor of a Bhimanagar slum dwelling in Bangalore, I ran my fingers across a fresh cut on my forehead."

"I change my name each time I place an order at Starbucks."

I produced this video of the 7 topics to ignore when writing the college essay.

Elizabeth Kraus:

Just read this blog post written by a student who got into Yale this year about how she wrote her college essay. I think she had some really good tips:
