Tips on How to Write an Epic Application Essay
The season to apply is finally here!!
For the past month I've been helping fellow seniors at my school with their essays and I've noticed a few common mistakes and/or things they could improve upon. Here they are:
- # 1: If you're stuck on what to write, write whatever comes to mind. As my english teacher always says, "sometimes your 'stupidest' ideas can be your best."
- # 2: Make your first paragraph (your first sentence would be even better!) as eye-catching and detailed as possible. You want those admission officers to want to keep on reading and to silently say, "Wow, I wonder what's going to happen next!"
- # 3: Be sure to write about yourself! There are several essay topics, like the ones on the Common Application, that ask you to write about your favorite painting, or movie, or the person who has inspired you the most. What many students mistakingly do is simply emphasizing that one painting, movie, or person throughtout the entire essay while never actually going into detail about how that one thing really affects them or showcases the kind of person they are.
GOOD LUCK!!
